Solara is the creator of the first full line of “fast-melting” tablets for the nutraceutical market, EZ Melts®. This same technology is used in many of our customers’ products, providing them a competitive advantage in the market that is often maintained for years.

Our “fast-melt” technology is sugar-free, dairy-free, Non-GMO, and gluten-free. Our great-tasting formulas also use only natural flavors and sweeteners, unless requested otherwise. These tablets dissolve easily in the mouth without chewing or water and are formulated for great taste – perfect for children, the elderly, and anyone who dislikes swallowing conventional tablets or pills. Most formulations dissolve in 30-90 seconds.

Many active ingredients are a fit for the technology, including vitamins, minerals, probiotics, botanicals, and specialized ingredients such as the NAD+ precursors nicotinamide riboside, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, and nicotinamide mononucleotide .

While most bulk powder projects are straightforward, manufacturing challenges are often encountered, usually due to unique product characteristics or hygroscopicity common in botanicals.

We also formulate and manufacture chewable tablets with a soft texture and “smooth-dissolving” characteristics that closely mimic the fast-melt experience. While chewables are not sugar-free, their advantages include:

Gluten-Free, Non-GMO components
Ability to mask ingredients with undesirable taste
Ability to carry a higher amount of active ingredients
Potentially lower cost than fast-melts (formula-dependent)
Natural flavors and sweeteners (unless requested otherwise)

We have a number of packaging formats available depending on your preferences. See below for options by Product Format:

For blister packs we can use either thermal-formed PVC or PVDC clear plastic films. Our fast-melt technology generally requires PVDC due to the need to provide a moisture-protection barrier.

In the case of temperature-sensitive projects, we can use cold-forming aluminum films. We generally use HDPE for bottles and jars, but are experienced sourcing and packaging with other formats. We also will package blisters and bottles into individual folding cartons (IFCs).

All packaging occurs in-house at Solara, except in cases where unique, custom packaging is used. In these cases we will partner with packaging specialists.

1. What amount of active ingredients can you get into one tablet?

This varies greatly depending on the ingredient. In general, the smaller the dose, the better the disintegration and taste profile. For an ingredient with a neutral taste, a small dose would be less than about 100 mg and a large dose may be up to 250-350mg per tablet. Ingredients with undesirable taste have a tendency to impact the product performance, but we are often able to overcome these challenges.

2. Are fast-melts more expensive?

They are usually more expensive when compared with an equivalent capsule or conventional tablet formula since our technology uses high-performing premium ingredients that drive the cost up.

However, in the case of very unique and expensive active ingredients, the price can be driven by the active ingredient, making the difference between a fast melt and encapsulated product negligible.

3. How do they taste?

This depends on the profile of the active ingredients.

4. Can I “private label” your EZ Melts or other lines?

In general, the fast-melt technology is available for custom-based projects. We evaluate private label projects for EZ Melts, on a case-by-case basis and with select criteria.
